Is Miniature Dog Breeds The Best Dog For You? – They are Joy in a Tea Cup
Miniature dog breeds are the perfect dog breeds in small apartments. They are usually very attractive, but tend to be snappy and prefer to be lap dogs.
Miniature dog breeds may seem easier to look after, as they eat less and need less exercise. However, they are more delicate, and get dehydrated more easily. Vets usually have a problem treating them, as they do not have surplus weight to lose, and every illness can be dangerous. Many of them are low on energy indoors, though there are a few high spirited ones too. Many are fragile with delicate bones, so may not be suitable in a house with small children who may inadvertently injure them.
Miniature dog breeds include dogs that are also known as toy dogs or lapdogs. They are well suited for the disabled and elderly. They may seem like an accessory, the way they are either on their owners’ laps or in their arms. Their owners treat them like that too, or more like toys. Miniature dog breeds are the ones who are most often taken to spas and beauty salons for dogs. Their accessories such as collars and leashes are often bejeweled designer goods, and it is not unusual to see the long haired varieties with their heads full of clips.
Miniature Dog Breeds that People Love
The various miniature dog breeds that make popular house pets include some whose names are miniatures. They are the Miniature Pinscher or Minpin, Miniature Bull Terrier, Miniature Dachshund and Miniature Schnauzer. The Minpin is not related to the Doberman Pinscher, but many miniatures are a result of inbreeding and cross breeding. Schnauzers, Terriers, and Dachshunds are seen in larger varieties too. These are all high energy dogs who are constantly yapping around strangers. Hair shedding is not a problem with these four.
Other miniature dog breeds that are very popular with ladies are the Pomeranian, Shih Tzu, Chihuahua and the Pekingese. They are long haired, and need constant grooming, and enjoy it too. There are short haired varieties of Chihuahua as well. These varieties are rather self sufficient animals, and though the Pomeranian is very energetic, the others are not. Some miniature dog breeds like the Yorkshire Terrier, Chihuahua, Toy Poodle, Pomeranian, and Shih Tzu are exceptionally alert, and can be good watch dogs despite their small size. They get excited very easily when strangers are around, and bark continuously.

Caring For Chihuahua Dogs
Caring For Chihuahua Dogs
You need to understand the conditions to keep your Chihuahua in order to remains healthy and active. Knowing this conditions before hands will ensure there are no surprises. You will enjoy your Chihuahua the more if you know how to care for it
Chihuahua Should Be House Trained
The Chihuahua should be kept in a warm environment, because they can easily catch cold, even while you feel hot. Chihuahua should be housetrained to use a liter box or paper for its need, this will ensure the dog is not exposed to winter temperatures.
Feeding
A Chihuahua is good at self-regulating its food intake and overweight Chihuahuas usually have somebody giving them too many rich treats. A Chihuahua will burn up energy quickly and even though it may only need half a cup of food everyday, tiny sized kibble should be made available to the dog at all times to prevent the Chihuahua from getting low blood sugar. Your dog should not have an all meat diet and should have vegetables available as a part of its diet.
Some Chihuahuas may be prone to kidney stones so be sure that your Chihuahua drinks lots of water. If you do not make your own dog food, make sure that when you buy dog food that it does not have by-products because some of the by-products used by unethical dog food manufacturers can include feathers, hooves, road kill, euthanized pets and other things that you do not want to feed your Chihuahua.
Exercising
Though it is tempting to carry your Chihuahua everywhere, your little dog does need exercise. So, let the Chihuahua walk too. Carrying a Chihuahua too much can make it fearful and aggressive because the dog expects you to be protecting them from anything and everything and may get aggressive if faced with something or somebody new when they are alone.
You can put your Chihuahua on a harness when you want to walk it though you should make sure the Chihuahua is warm at all times. It is not suitable to walk a Chihuahua in the winter because it is too cold. When it is cool out, put a sweater or coat on your Chihuahua. Chihuahuas should not be allowed to jump up to and from tall heights. The reason is that the dog’s patella can be seriously injured from such a jump.
Grooming
The longhaired Chihuahua should be brushed daily and the smooth coat Chihuahua can be simply smoothed with a cloth and brushed sometimes. You can give your Chihuahua a monthly bath but be careful not to get its ears wet.
Basic Manners
The Chihuahua is a very loving breed that can become very attached to only a few people. It also may not like small children because it senses the danger of letting the child play with it. As you learn to care for Chihuahua dogs, you will find this dog is happy to stay with its owner all day.
Caring for Chihuahua dogs is not much different than it is for other breeds. But because of their small size, special considerations and care should be employed, you will become more familiar with when caring for Chihuahua dogs.
