What You Need To Know About Large Dogs Breed

Many individuals choose large dog breeds for their animal companions because they are looking for pets that can protect them as well as be their friend. There are 167 breeds designated by the American Kennel Club as large dogs breed, each weighing around or over 50 pounds. Although some large breeds are used for security, many large dogs are extremely gentle in personality and are genuinely friendly. To prevent many disorders from appearing in your pet, veterinarian visits must be frequent and the dog must get regular exercise to maintain their weight and keep them healthy.

Training Needs

Large dog breeds require obedience training at an early age to make them safe to have in a domestic setting. Proper training will ensure that the dog will not hurt themselves and their owners through ignorance. Large dogs like to jump up on their owners as much as small dogs dog, but their larger size could cause their owners significant injury. Training the animal early also teaches the dog good manners and allows them to be indoor animals and be around the rest of the family. Proper training can also curb the destructive tendencies of a discontent dog. Although large dog breeds require a different type of nutrition, training, and healthcare, they are just as lovable as any of the smaller dog breeds.

They are inherently working dogs, and love wide open spaces to run about.

Another thing to bear in mind while going through a list of large dogs is that many of them need a lot of exercise. All dogs need exercise and large dogs need plenty of it. They also eat more and therefore one needs bigger budgets for their meals. These dogs are expensive to maintain, and this can be a limiting factor for many genuine dog lovers.

question for those of you that own medium/large dog breeds?

im thinking about getting a medium/large dog breed i realize that large breed have their own needs just like every dog do but i think i cna handle it my dad was a newfoundland,sait bernard dog breeder for 10 years so he has experience iwth large dogs i thinking about new dog cuz my dog wa poisoned a week ago and i need to recover somehow but im not sure if i ready for new dog
i wa thinking about "mountain dogs" like greater swiss or bernese but i have no idea about those dogs ive read a lot aabout them from dogbreedinfo.compuppydogweb.com akc.org
or what are ur suggestions ??

Bernese are good dogs. They're goofy – really lovable clowns. If you know St. Bernards and Newfoundlands, you'll probably like Bernese and Great Swiss Mountain Dogs as well.

Are there any large dog breeds with short hair that don’t shed?

I looked at previous questions that were similar to mine but no one was able to come up with any other than doberman, pitbull etc. But they still shed. I realize that all dogs shed to some extent but I want something like a standard poodle but with short hair that doesn’t need to be cut. Is there any breed or cross breed with these qualities that exists.I know most breeds that don’t shed have continously growing hair but not all do but they are only small sized dogs.Anyone know of a large breed??????
I am wanting something like a rough coated brussels griffon or patterdale terrier when it's bred to a smooth coated brussels griffon or patterdale terrier. The result is a broken coat that is usually mostly short hair and it doesn't shed. But I want a large dog. Any ideas? Thanks for the answers so far but boxers, bulldogs and especially mastiffs all shed quite a bit. Standard poodle is cute but I don't want to have to take it to the groomers to be shaved and don't want a long haired dog. Any broken coat large breeds???

So I assume you want a dog that has short hair and requires no grooming because you want an easy to care for dog that isn’t smelly and doesn’t shed. Large dogs that don’t shed are few and far between. But the Pharaoh Hound may be of interest to you. They have extremely fine, short hair and even when they are wet they emit no doggy odor. They shed but very, very minimally and I don’t think it would be a problem to even excessively clean people.They do require lots of exercise and are not always great off leash dogs but they are very unique. If you must have a hypo-allergenic dog go for the poodle but you will need to groom it however thi is one of the few large breeds that really wont bug your allergies. You may also consider poodle hybrids, great danes, and greyhounds. Salukis and irish wolfhounds have medium coats that don’t require much care and they don’t shed much either but my advice is to go with the Pharaoh Hound.

Apartments that allow large dog breeds in El Cajon, California?

Are there any apartments in El Cajon that allow large dogs? I found some apartments that allow dogs, but the weight is 20lb and under. My dog weighs 75lb right now and is still growing.

You will have more luck looking for a house to rent, as most apartments do not have a yard attached to them.
