Hunting Dog Training: Different Breeds Will Do Different Hunting Chores

Hunting dogs are those dogs that are used by hunters to assist them in their hunting activities and there are many different breeds of dogs that are suitable for hunting dog training with each particular breed having its own talents that come in handy in the sport of hunting. So, you will find that hounds, and more particularly, coonhounds are best used to stalk prey is it through sense of smell or because of their excellent eyesight.

Scent Hounds Or Sight Hounds

In fact, sight hounds are known to kill the prey that they are trained to stalk which is different to what happens in the case of scent hounds that are more adept at cornering the prey to enable the hunter to then kill it off. There are different types of hunting dog training and there are also gun dogs that are used by hunters out seeking to hunt wild turkeys as well as pheasants, while pointers are dogs that will use their tails to point out game birds that a hunting party is trying to track, and these dogs can also flush out prey for their masters.

Some pointers are so well trained in hunting dog training that they will actually freeze and then point out game birds once they are spotted and thus it gives the hunting party enough opportunity to kill off the prey. Another breed that are good examples for hunting dog training are the retrievers which are very adept at retrieving the carcasses of different prey that the hunter has already shot.

There are even lesser dogs that can be given hunting dog training and among them you will find curs as also terriers that are types of gun dogs and terriers can easily find out animals according to their habits and are strong enough to kill off the prey once they find them. And, curs will readily take on and kill animals that are bigger in size than them and are thus very useful for hunting purposes.

To begin hunting dog training, you need to first of all get your dog to be well attuned to the outdoors because it is necessary for such dogs to be able to handle all kinds of weather conditions. Next, you need to impart training to your dog in being able to track prey which is easily accomplished by giving it a smell of animal blood to follow. Suffice to say, that with a lot of patience, you will find that hunting dog training will make your dog a very faithful and trustworthy animal that will lead you to your prey for many years to come.

Im not sure whether or not to post this under dogs because its a dogs game and im asking what dog breeds, so im gonna post it more than once. Apparently theres 48 breeds, what breeds are they?
I’m not sure. You would probably have a better chance of getting a good answer (unlike mine haha) in a game section or something. Good luck!

what other dog breeds do maltese get along with?

I have a two month old maltese puppy but we have to leave him in our garage for long periods of time. I am worried he is bored and will become neglected, so I wish to buy him a friend, preferably another dog. What dog breeds get along well with a maltese?
my parents refuse to allow the dogs inside, but we are planning to build them a small "dog" home.

with socialization any dog can get along. although I would go with a breed that is around the same size just to be on the safe side. I hope your garage is heated though so your dog is not cold, if you get two dogs will they be aloud to stay in the house? just make sure that your dogs are well taken care of and can't get into anything please(in a garage they can get into ALOT)

EDIT: Does your dog EVER come in the house? If not, than you really shouldn't get another dog, you should find your little dog a home were he can come in and have human contact, a Maltese is a breed that likes to be around humans, they are not a solitary breed, no dog is that is why they live in packs. Please do do the right thing by your dog, at two months your dog needs socialization not isolation.

What dog breeds only have an undercoat?

There was a local dog breed 100+ years ago that was bred to only have an undercoat, so its fur could be used like wool. (Sheep didn't exist here) The breed is long extinct, and I'm looking for other breeds with only an undercoat.

A few nowadays have undercoats (not sure about the extinct breed,… not old enough!).
Labs, Huskies, to name a couple.
